The King and His Kingdom

Jeremiah 23:1-11
Chaos, devastation, lawlessness, greediness, every man for himself—this is the way of the world. Then the WORD of the Lord is spoken through Jeremiah, “The days are coming… When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch… The Lord Our Righteous Savior.” Finally a word of hope, finally a break from the darkness.
We live in a world where it is easy to find reason to be discouraged and give up. But the very God who promised a Righteous Savior to his people in the days of Jeremiah is still promising—that The Lord Our Righteous Savior is with us. Jesus has come and continues to rule as sovereign, righteous and just.
But the work of righteousness, justice, and hope is not left alone for the King to do. We are citizens of God’s Kingdom, therefore we are called to live in the Way of the King. If we are complacent, if we don’t care then we are no better than in the days of Jeremiah.
