Psalm 111:1-10

Dedication to studying God’s word is a wholehearted expression of gratefulness to God for all that He has done. It is by studying the stories and instructions recorded in God’s word that we learn His will in the past and for our own lives. Understanding the rightness and trustworthiness of God’s precepts requires practicing them. Paul wrote Timothy of Scripture’s usefulness for his preparation in doing God’s work (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The psalmist wrote an acrostic, each measure beginning with the next letter of the Hebrew language, delineating the reasons to praise the LORD. You have probably performed that exercise with THANKSGIVING; try using the entire alphabet. The psalmist provides several ideas and a wealth of descriptive vocabulary for the start our own account of God’s works. Since we can trust that God is true and fair, write a second alphabetic acrostic of how to study and apply God’s word. God’s praise is inexhaustible and endures forever.
