1 John 5:1-12

God called Jacqueline DjeDje to be a pastor. Not only was she a woman, but she was a woman in West African patriarchal culture. Her father died when she was young, and she went to work to support her family. She began to work in her church. When she married several years later, she was no longer allowed to minister there. She and her husband heard of another church. When her husband began taking ministerial preparation classes, he learned that this new denomination actively encouraged women in ministry. Jacqueline began to study and started a church in her neighborhood. She was ordained. Her ministry in numerous areas impacted many lives. Then, cancer slowly began to grow in her body. She fought the good fight, but eventually the cancer took her life. Jacqueline overcame many obstacles and remained faithful to the end.

Is Jacqueline’s strong faith abnormal? It shouldn’t be. Jesus encouraged His disciples saying, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
