Have you ever been overwhelmed with joy and praise toward God? Not some fleeting emotion that suddenly came and went, but a time when you felt the Holy Spirit of the living God take you in His arms, and you experienced His matchless love, mercy, and grace?
Simeon, in Luke 2, experienced this. His life and faith were God-honoring. His devotion to the Lord resulted in a promise–that he would see the Messiah before he died. The Holy Spirit was “on” Simeon. That is, the Spirit rested on him, with full access to his life. When the Spirit moved, Simeon followed the Spirit’s leading. Being “moved by the Spirit,” at the right time and in the right place, Simeon received the fulfillment of the divine promise–Simeon embraced the Christ.
The God of the universe invites us into this overwhelming joy. It is to be led to the point where life intersects faith and we see Jesus.
