Acts 6:1-7

As Christians, we have a responsibility to look after one another. We should not distort this into a license to tell each other what to do. Looking after someone is to take a nurturing approach. Nurturing is more than just making sure someone is okay. It is coming alongside of that person and having the ability to make sure that their needs are met on every level.

In a sense, there is a “calling” on one’s life to nurture, to take care of individuals who have need. In Acts 6, seven men were called to direct the care of the needy widows in their group. There continues to be a need for this Christlike act of Christian responsibility.

Many times we want to shrug off the Christian responsibility of nurturing others to a more qualified individual. As followers of Christ, we are called to show love, empathy, and care for those whom the Lord leads our way. It does not matter if we are qualified; we just need to be obedient to the Lord’s leading. He will take care of equipping us for the task.
