An Opportunistic Church

Ephesians 5:1-20

One of my spiritual heroes is Phineas F. Bresee, a founding father of the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Bresee was a member of another denomination serving in Los Angeles during the late 19th century. He was concerned that his denomination was failing to grasp the opportunities to make the gospel available to the lost.

Bresee saw opportunity knocking at the door to begin a new church that would welcome all people of every race, social and economic status, male and female, and national origin into the services. Bresee said, “Some people are looking hopefully toward us. Let us not disappoint them. Let us not waver. Let us be true.”*

A wise church making the most of every opportunity will do everything in its power to preach the gospel with fidelity, purity, and integrity–a congregation that cares about people, is filled with authentic Christians, and is led by pastors preaching God’s Word on today’s issues.

No one should be left outside without an opportunity to hear the good news proclaimed!
