Acts 20:13-28

The apostles’ dedication to preaching the gospel is undeniable throughout the book of Acts. In Acts 20 alone, Luke recounts their travels as they go from city to city. We see how quickly the Church grows when the apostles, empowered by the Holy Spirit, are faithful to share the gospel. It is clear that they took the Great Commission seriously.

They preached and traveled, considering their lives worth nothing to them (v. 24a). It may be difficult for many of us to fully understand verse 24. Although our beliefs may be challenged from time to time, we have never feared that our lives were in danger simply because we are Christians. The apostles know that they might be martyred for their boldness in preaching the gospel, but still they did so.

The Great Commission still applies for Christ’s followers today. We are probably not traveling by boat to share the gospel with those who are hearing it for the first time, but we are still called to consider our lives worth nothing so that we may share the good news of God’s grace. How can you, through the power of the Holy Spirit, boldly proclaim the gospel to those you encounter today?
