“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:2-3). Before God said, “Let there be light,” He was himself the light. He lit up the universe in a powerful reflection of His magnificent glory. The apostle John wrote about this light and meant us to see Jesus, the cosmic Christ, who lights all humankind and breathes His life into us. Jesus didn’t suddenly appear on the scene in a stable in Bethlehem. He is God, alive from the beginning of time, whose kingdom of love and light will never end.
No longer do we need to live in the darkness, directionless through the murky waters of life. If we place our faith in Him, He leads us through this present world to eternal life and joy. Regardless of the obstacles and sorrows of life that might darken the heart, His hand holds ours securely.
