Pack Up Your Tent

Genesis 12:1-9

A tent, no matter where in the world, represents a temporary and mobile dwelling place. By design, tents are easy to pack up and move. The move might happen for many reasons. It could be weather, business, or the end of a holiday. In any case, a tent is temporary.

Abram was called by God to a journey. He took his tent and all of his possessions with him. The tent was practical and necessary, but it was not permanent.

The writer of the New Testament letter to the Hebrews describes it this way: “By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents” (Hebrews 11:9a). Abram’s relationship with God and faith led him to pick up and go to an unknown place.

Is God asking you to go somewhere unfamiliar or unknown to you? Are the details unclear? Abram moved by faith. Are you ready to do the same? The promise from God is that He will show you the way. The reward? An eternal and heavenly home.
