John 1:5-18

“Can I get a witness?” inquires the fervent preacher! Something moves in us when a witness is called for. Even in a courtroom, there is a keen sense of anticipation when a witness is called to take the stand. However, as important as a witness is, it is the thing they witnessed that is of utmost importance. The witness is there to confirm the truth.

We live in a world of utter spiritual darkness. Without God, this world is void of grace and truth. Without God, we live under the condemnation of the Law. The first chapter of John’s gospel tells us that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. As the Light, He shines in the darkness. He gives light to everyone. He came from God the Father and is full of glory, grace and truth.

We who believe on Jesus have been born of God and “have received grace in place of grace already given” (John 1:16).  However, many still live in total darkness, not recognizing that the Light has come. John the Baptist testified “concerning that light, so that through him all might believe” (John 1:7). There is power in a truthful testimony. Will ours reach someone today?
