Psalm 18:1-19

In Psalm 18 we learn that God is our Strength, Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Refuge, Shield, Horn of Salvation, and Stronghold. This is why He is worthy of praise, and it is why we are saved from our enemies. We are not strong, but weak in the face of true enemies. In our mortal lives, we are exposed to threats of death, destruction, and distress. We are vulnerable, and so we call out and we cry to the Lord.

How does God respond? God will move heaven and earth to get to us. He hears us and parts the heavens to come down. He goes after our enemies and saves us: “They confronted me in the day of my disaster,” says King David, “but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me” (Psalm 18:18-19).

Whatever dark waters may surround us, we have a Strong God who delights in us, One who is prepared to reach down, take hold, and draw us into His safety and strength.
