Psalm 130:1-8

A young Christian businessman looked me in the eye and said, “I can’t forgive the murderer who took the life of my father in my own home. I just can’t do it.” I could see the pain in his eyes as he was torn between the pain of his loss and the tension he felt with Jesus’ call that he forgive those who had sinned against him (Matthew 6:14-15).

I didn’t know what to say at that moment. All the wise words and clichés that came to mind would not touch the pain and anger he was feeling deep inside. So I prayed with him and encouraged him to continue to seek God’s healing and direction.   God knows what it feels like to lose a loved one to criminals. His son Jesus paid the price for the sins of others with his own life, and yet, He forgave. God’s love for us was that great!   If forgiving others is difficult then focus on the magnitude of the love God has for you and see what happens. You will be pleasantly surprised.
