1 Peter 1:3-12

Do you remember the first time you realized that life wasn’t always going to be easy? We all experience difficulties, but was there a time when your circumstances were so overwhelming that you wondered how they would fit into the fabric of your life?

In 1 Peter 1:6 we are reminded that difficulties not only bring about pain, but that we can also experience joy in the midst of them. As we contemplate the connection we have in our life in Jesus Christ our faith grows. Even while the good and the bad in our lives are woven together into a fabric of faithfulness.

In thinking about this intermingling of pain and joy, love and sorrow, the greatest surprise to me is the hope that it brings to my spirit. “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:8-9).
