2 Peter 1:12-21

You can trust the Scriptures. The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are reliable, trustworthy, and true. Peter’s statement that the “prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit,” is an assurance on which the Church stands firm (v. 21). The Bible is wholly inspired, completely reliable, and its purpose is entirely redemptive!

The way to God is found in the scriptures–they contain everything we need to know for life and holy living. The story of God in all its redemptive grandeur and majesty is the purpose for which the revelation has been given to us.

If we miss the grand theological narrative that is the saving intent of the Word of God, we can become mired in contentious debate about details that are not the point of Scripture. How God’s good creation was marred by sin, and what a holy and loving God designed to remedy that damage and restore creation to its intended perfection, is the point of it all.
