Romans 8:16-32

Jesus Christ came to redeem fallen humanity, and suffering was part of the price He paid. He didn’t suffer because of His own disobedience or sin–but He certainly suffered because of our disobedience and sin. The climax came one Friday on a cross on Golgotha. There are no words to describe His suffering that day.

Isn’t it strange that we acknowledge His extreme suffering but cry out “Why?” “What did I do to deserve this?” “I thought the Christian life was one of joy, peace, and love. Where did this suffering come from?”

As Jesus said, “A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also” (John 15:20). However, Paul assures us that “if indeed we share in his sufferings . . . we may also share in his glory” (Rom. 8:17). Suffering is temporary; glory is eternal. Suffering lasts through the night, but joy comes in the morning!

In the eternal city Jesus is preparing for His Bride, morning will last forever. Suffering will be no more because “the former things have passed away!” (Rev. 21:4, NKJV).
