Ezekiel 34:1-16

“I’m flying out tonight to try to find her,” my friend, Barb, stated determinedly. She and her husband, Tom, had spent tens of thousands of dollars struggling to help their rebellious daughter, Linda. They had attempted all kinds of intervention to keep her off the streets, off drugs and out of jail. Linda didn’t want to be found or helped.

Still, Barb left Kansas and searched for her lost child in Oregon. She located her, got her treatment, and took her young adult daughter back into their home. In a few weeks, the cycle was repeated. Over and over, Tom and Barb showed love and forgiveness to their wayward lamb, even though they were emotionally exhausted. For more than eight years our women’s prayer group cried out to God on Linda’s behalf.

Today, Linda is married and lives in an apartment near her parents. All of her issues are not solved, but she is a testament to her parents’ care and her heavenly Father’s compassion and mercy.

Each of us needs the Shepherd. We who seem righteous and self-sufficient may require “looking after” even more. We can admit our spiritual poverty and seek our Shepherd. He comes for us now.

The difference (beside genetics) between “goats” and “sheep” is the food they eat. Thus, Linda wouldn’t digest the proper food growing up. She had a taste for “junk” food
