Ezekiel 1:10-21

It is easy to get lost in the details of Ezekiel’s vision. How did the creatures with four different faces and four wings appear? What were the rims of the wheels with “eyes all around”? The purpose of the vision, as with all divine revelation, is to convey truth about God. God is powerful and unbound, nothing escapes His notice, and He acts swiftly, in accordance with His purposes. John Wesley commented on Ezekiel’s vision, “How fitly do the wheels, their motion, their height, and eyes, signify the height, unsearchableness, wisdom, and vigilance of Divine Providence.”*

A fundamental question we need to continually ask of the Bible is, “What is this particular passage teaching me about God?” For Ezekiel the vision is clear: God was not confined to the temple, His power was not limited to the boundaries of Judah or even Israel, His knowledge encompasses the whole earth, His servants rush to and fro; as swift as lightning and guided by His will. God will accomplish His purposes.

Assurance that the LORD is ever in the middle of my moments of trauma, crisis, and desperation; IF He is there then, should I not recognize He is also there when all seems at peace in my life ?

I read today’s reading. What’s up with the wheels with eyes? Yet at the precise moment I am having my oil changed, my car is on the lift, the wheels are being rotated. Maybe they will keep an eye on things? :)))

What I can say is those wheels get me to where God wants me. He keeps an eye on where I am going , and yet to go. I also thank God by prayer I made it through winter on insuffient tires.

It’s nice to have eyes on low places like the road before us.

    Jamie, great analogy!

Not to leave Mr. Crisp’s comment with mention. . .I’ll expound on how the LORD gives us “peace” in the moments where we don’t “feel” peace.

When we hear that God doesn’t put anything on us that we can’t bear (for which those times listed seem unbearable), God supplies through the Holy Spirit. Those times are made tolerable by patiently waiting, abiding in Him (Jesus), and hearing testimony from others who believe. We can’t lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5) which is hard for our flesh.

However, when times are at peace, we have either learned to grab a hold of the peace that comes with the Holy Spirit being with us, OR, our flesh is at peace with the direction in which we are going! Some walk by the Spirit and some by the flesh. . .

Of course, the scripture reference is way beyond normal interpretation; thus the take away on God’s ability to go beyond boundaries definitely credits HIS glory

The split human faces appearing like a lion on the right side and an ox on the left) along with the overall eagle face sounds like a human being with a split personality.
