Psalm 51:10-19

If we see God as Judge, as well as love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, long-suffering and faithful, we learn something of the nature of the type of demeanor with which we can approach Him. He is not interested in meaningless sacrifices, however fitting they may appear to be. He is not moved by thoughtless attempts to “get in good” with God. No, He asks for us to open ourselves to His clear gaze.

We often journey through life telling everyone and being told by everyone that we are “fine.” How odd that there is so much hurt and pain in a world where everyone and everything is “fine”! When we become aware of the area in our life needing God’s mercy, and that might just be every area, God does not desire for us to approach Him with ‘everything-is-just-fine’ bravado.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31, ESV). Our sin separates us from God; His compassionate hands seek to draw us back to Himself. There is no safer place to be when our brokenness is unbearable and healing is needed.
