Proverbs 3:11-20

In recent years, wave after wave of negative economic reports have confirmed the dangers of relying on riches. Unemployment and failed investments have left many people struggling to pay even their most basic bills. Markets fluctuate and prices rise. Much like the foolish man in Jesus’ parable who built his house upon the sand, those who have built their lives around money have seen their castles crumble with shifting financial tides.

This proverb reminds us that wisdom has enduring value; more precious than jewels. Wisdom cannot be stolen from us. Wisdom produces life and peaceful paths; it is a tree of life building strong, deep roots to hold us securely.

Where do we find wisdom? In the 19th Psalm, David wrote that we should desire God’s word and direction more that we desire gold. The fear of the Lord, acknowledging and seeking God’s guidance and lordship in our lives, brings wisdom.

So, if you desire wisdom, study God’s word. Earnestly seek to follow God’s commands and to live out God’s grace in all of your daily life. You will be richly rewarded, indeed!
