1 Peter 4:12-19

It has evidently always been a challenge to be the people of God. Living in an immoral culture includes some suffering. Enough so that sometimes we dream of living in a theocracy (one that reflects our particular theology and political beliefs). If we could just get the right politicians and laws in place, it would solve so many problems.

The good news is that the suffering we experience as followers of Christ in a society with major moral problems will come to an end when His glory is revealed. Until then, the hope of our nation does not rest with any politician or political party. Our hope is in Jesus Christ. We will pray for and work toward better politicians and political parties, but we will not expect from them solutions to the great moral issues of our time. Rather than expecting that some ideal politician will arise and write laws that will coerce people to do what we have been unable to convince them of, it is surely time, as it always is, for Christians and churches to do the work to which we are called.
