Hosea 5:1-15

In my young adult years I was far from God. I would often be out late with friends, but one thing I knew was that no matter how late I came home, my mom would be waiting up for me. I knew that the way I had been living was disappointing to her and that in those hours of waiting she was praying for me.

We serve a God who is willing to wait. No matter how far his children may wander from Him, no matter how long it may take for them to return, God will wait until they “seek” Him. We serve a God who gives us the freedom to live our lives in the way we choose. We will have to deal with the consequences of the mistakes we make in life by turning from Him. Nevertheless, He is a God who lovingly and continually waits until we “in [our] misery . . . earnestly seek [Him]” (v. 15).

May we always be a people who are prayerfully “waiting up” for loved ones who are lost, in the same way our loving heavenly Father waited for us.
