Luke 3:1-18

John is addressing the people who are coming out to him in the wilderness to be baptized, but are doing so simply to avoid “the wrath to come” (v. 7). John calls upon them to live a life that demonstrates genuine repentance and sorrow for their sins.

If we are not careful, we can take our religious heritage for granted and think that because we have grown up in the church, we are saved and that is all that matters.

There is nothing we can do to earn salvation, and God does not expect us to earn it. However, we must live in a way that proclaims the saving message of Jesus Christ that we have received. We cannot just receive it; we must live it and proclaim it so that we can “produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”

How are you living and proclaiming the grace and mercy of God that you have received? Bearing fruit in our personal lives, in our church, communities, and into the world is a must for those who have been born again. So, is your life producing “fruit in keeping with repentance”?
