Hosea 6:1-10

Hosea is in no way dismissing the importance of sacrifices. God, however, cannot stand for shallow level of love and sacrifices. This means that our love for God and others must be unwavering even in the days where sacrifices may come at a great price.

We can speak and sing of the love of God with ease when there is little to disrupt our comfortable worship experience and church community. If our love for God and others is only demonstrated and lived out in and among our church community, it is a shallow love for God.

In yesterday’s reading we discussed God’s faithfulness in receiving back “his children” who have rebelled against Him. Are you also willing to receive back those who have hurt you or your family? Perhaps it is a little easier to love our family members when they are far from God, but is your love steadfast for a neighbor or coworker who lives a life very different than your own?

Living a holy life that glorifies God every day of the week requires a “steadfast” love for others, in the same way God’s love is steadfast for us.
