There’s Richness in Giving

2 Corinthians 9:8-15

Just think. Generosity results in thanksgiving to God. Second Corinthians, chapter 9, verse 11 tells us we really don’t have to stop and wonder when we should be generous.

My sister is a very generous person. She has a retired missionary friend who lives on a very limited income. My sister keeps her in phone cards and sends her birthday and Christmas gifts. The missionary‘s response is usually, “You didn’t have to do that.” My sister quips back, “If you don’t want it, I will take it back.” That ends the discussion. She reminds her that if she refuses the gifts, she is robbing my sister of the blessing of giving.

When asked what a missionary in Venezuela needed, she responded that she had bunions and needed comfortable shoes. She also needed a large purse in which to carry the travel documents of the children from the orphanage. When the best shoes and largest purse I could find arrived, I received this note, “I thank you, and my feet thank you.”

Yes, I had been enriched so I could be generous with her, and God was receiving the thanksgiving.
