Philippians 2:12-17

The Christians in Philippi were like us in that they had to work at being careful to obey Christ. But obedience isn’t always easy. We can all get sidetracked and forget our calling. So, what do you do when you don’t feel like obeying?

The good news is that God has not left us alone in our struggles to do his will. He wants to help us. If we will seek it, God will give us the desire and the power to do what is pleasing him. The secret to a changed life is submission to God’s control and a daily commitment to allow him to work in your life. He will give you the desire to do his will. He helps us want what he wants.

Often it is in doing God’s will that we gain the desire to do it. It is a fact that we can often act our way into feeling much faster than we can feel our way into acting. The next time you struggle with obedience, decide you will do what you know he wants and trust him to place within you the desire to do his will.

“So, what do you do when you don’t feel like obeying?”

Our flesh usually justifies why we “can’t” obey. As the writer says, God didn’t leave us alone. The Holy Spirit makes a way.
