Singing In The Dark

September 7th, 2012

Acts 16:16-26RG AUDIO 090712

How would you feel if you were falsely accused, stripped and beaten in public, then thrown into prison and fastened in
stocks? It’s pretty hard to imagine. Unfortunately, some people still go through persecution like that. I hope if I ever end up in such a situation I’ll be able to respond the way Paul and Silas did.

They must have been bruised, bleeding, swollen, and in great pain as they sat in their dark prison cell. Nevertheless,
they prayed and sang hymns to God. I don’t know if they felt discouraged at some point. I don’t know what they expected to happen. All I know is they were prepared to praise God and trust him even in the worst situations.

At this point I have to ask myself–am I prepared for the worst? I think God gives us grace to face challenges as they
come, not necessarily before. However, our mind-set plays an important role too. Do I count Christ the most important thing in my life? Am I willing to sacrifice everything–even my life–for the sake of being faithful to him? Are you?
