Galatians 3:26—4:7

Several years ago a friend adopted a teenage girl that had been her foster child. My friend told me that when the adoption took place, this girl received a new birth certificate. The document no longer contained the names of her biological parents, but those of her adoptive parents.

“Tom is now listed as her father,” Beth explained. I was amazed.

Legally, this girl’s previous history had been wiped out. The new daughter now had the same rights and legal standing as the other children in the family.

When our adoption into God’s family is complete, our new birth certificate carries the name of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Our former circumstances are erased, and we become heirs to the crown of life. This was part of God’s plan from the beginning, “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ” (Eph. 1:4-5a, NLT).
