First Step: Turn To God!

2 Corinthians 8:1-7
I stood on the mountainside gazing at the small lake, the right size for teens to enjoy. I noticed the small dorms and the construction of a lodge that would hold more kids learning how to live for Jesus. Though the camp my friend directs is small, it has had a big impact in my children’s lives.
“Lord,” I cried, “I wish so much that I could give a big gift to help them achieve their goals.” But that seemed impossible. The poor economy had struck our family hard–meeting bills and tithe each month was a challenge; additional giving seemed impossible.
I heard the Lord tell me, “You have done the first step: turning to me.”
Most of us have causes we wish we could help with money or time. What are we to do about all the needs we see?
Second Corinthians chapter 8 reminds us of the essential point: First we give ourselves to God. We commit our lives, our finances, our time to him and ask for direction; he has a way of stretching our resources. We only have to ask.
