The Look of Love

RG AUDIO 031712Matthew 14:66-72

My college choir director had one of those looks. He didn’t have to say a word. If we weren’t paying adequate attention when our eyes finally connected with his, we knew we had disappointed him. His loving attention and our respect for him brought us back to where we should be—back within the proper rhythms and chords of the song.

Christ’s look was as powerful as his words. It spoke volumes and it became an illuminator to Peter’s very soul. “If all fall away, I will not” (Mark 14:29). Earlier these had been motivating words, but now they were haunting words as Christ looked his way (Luke 22:61). Peter had a full face confrontation with who he really was through that look.

After speaking so strongly and with such conviction, why did Peter wither so quickly? The answer might be—he felt suddenly alone and afraid.

When we live in the Messiah, we are not alone.

Please let me know what the correct Bible verse is for this devotion. Matthew 14:66-72 does not exist.
