Are You With Me or Not?

What a flip-flop! Christ had complimented Peter (vs. 17) yet in the next breath rebuked him. Peter, “the rock,” had to have been shaken to the core. In the wilderness, Christ had been tempted three times to doubt that he was the Son of God (Matt. 4:3, 6, 9). This time Satan attacks again using Christ’s closest disciple.

What did Christ mean by saying he would have to die? How could death bring life? Ask a farmer–I’m sure he or she could tell you. The seed must be buried (die) before it will be able to grow and bear fruit. As the seed grows, it will face storms, dry spells, and beautiful sunny days on the way to a bountiful harvest. The harvest yield of Christ’s suffering and death would be life for many.

To die to self-will can make a church come alive. We, like Peter, must learn from Christ’s example so that we can share real life to the world around us.
