I Have Found Him

During my college years, we had a schoolmate we called Peaches because he was from Georgia. The nickname fit so well we almost forgot his real name.

Simon had a similar experience. Christ changed his name to reflect what would be his true character—Peter, the Rock. This character didn’t immediately shine, but through the shaping of experiences and submission to Christ, Peter’s character eventually became just what Christ had described—strong, loyal and true.

Although it was Andrew who had introduced Simon to Jesus, we see in scripture that Simon was the one who became part of Christ’s inner circle. Why was Simon chosen for this role and not Andrew? Why did Christ give Simon a significant name when the same is not described for Andrew? Andrew still played an important role in that he did bring Simon to Jesus. Andrew said, “We have found the Messiah,” but, truth be known, the Messiah was finding them, and that changed everything.
