No More Gloom

December 3rd, 2011

RG AUDIO 120311Isaiah 9:1-7

The “prophetess,” Isaiah’s wife, would have a son. God told the prophet to name the child Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz, “Quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil” (8:3). That is quite a name to hang on a little baby, but like everything God commands it had great significance. King Ahaz’s enemies, Damascus and Samaria, would be crushed by the marauding Assyrian empire.

During that time the people of Judah would look to mediums and spiritists. They would find no message of hope there. “Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom” (Isa. 8:22). Don’t look down the prophet says, look up.

The great light would scatter their night; a child would be born who would be known as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. In the land of the shadow of death his light would shine. “Hallelujah!”
