Above The Rubble

Matthew 24:29-35

We were touring through Greece headed for Corinth and were surprised to discover that the modern city of Corinth is located several miles removed from the ruins of biblical Corinth. The ancient city has been beaten down multiple times and long since abandoned.

Just across the street was an inconspicuous church. However, rising above it was a four-sided column in front. We went over to examine the lettering on each of the sides, and our hearts leaped at what it revealed. There was spelled out the entire chapter of 1 Corinthian 13, in Greek, English, French, and German, rising tall above the rubble.

I had one of those “Aha” moments! The city may be ashes, the civilization long doomed, but the Word stands majestic above those ruins. The message of “Love is patient,” “Love protects, trusts, hopes, preserves”…points forever to he who is the Lover of our souls.
