God’s Enduring Word

1 Peter 1:17-25

Ninety years ago my friend was born on a farm in South Carolina. His family did not have electricity, a telephone, or a car. His parents and grandparents had never been out of the state. Yet in the past 90 years my older friend has traveled around the world. He has logged thousands of miles on airplanes. He communicates on the computer with friends in other lands in a matter of seconds. Television allows him to watch news as it is happening almost anywhere in the world. His parents and grandparents would have found it hard to believe such changes would ever take place.

Everything seems to be continually changing. Some changes are exciting and make life better. Some changes seem threatening and bring fear. Governments come and go. Leaders live and die. What is “new” today is “old” tomorrow. But if we are born again, we are connected to something eternal and changeless. The Bible says, “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him” (Ps. 103:17a). Jesus never changes (Heb. 13:8).
