Blessed Messiah

Luke 8:26-39

What a place to find the Messiah. Both tombs and pigs are unclean to Jews. Add a naked wild man, and you have a horror movie. “When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet” (v. 28a). Even demons recognize the Messiah.

The disciples had just witnessed Jesus take authority over nature (v. 24b). Now they were seeing him do the same over demons. They were storm hopping. He calmed the waves. Surely he could calm a man. Pigs can’t seem to endure what people tolerate. So the demons went into the abyss with the pigs after all. At this point, animal rights activists appeared. They were more concerned about pigs than a transformed man. It is sad. They had Jesus walking their shore. Many people could have been delivered.

Jesus did a peculiar thing. He sent the man home. Somewhere a mother was waiting for her little boy to return and be restored to his family.
