God Is Not Dead

1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Yesterday we considered the futility of any man endeavoring to found a religion that would be an improvement on Christianity. Even a generation ago, there were some self-styled “theologians” who began to advocate the death of God. “God is dead,” they smugly declared.
About that time, a simple, two-paneled cartoon appeared which spoke volumes. In the first panel was a church that espoused such a doctrine with a sign posted in front reading in 3 lines:


It was evident that over time a shrub had grown up obscuring the bottom line. Thus, the second panel showed the sign reading,

How simply and artlessly does the living God of heaven make foolish the wisdom of this world! “God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe” wrote Paul (1 Cor. 1:21). The living core of that belief system is the resurrection of Christ.
