Free or Slave?

Galatians 4:21-5:1
Are we living as slaves of effort or as children of promise? God promised Abraham a mighty nation. Abraham tried fulfilling the promise with his logically rationalized efforts.
Something within us wants to earn salvation. Logically, we figure we must produce something. Perhaps if we do well, if we perform, if we keep all 613 commandments, then God will be pleased and maybe accept us as his children. That is slavery.
Good news: freedom is trusting in Christ alone for our salvation. We are set free from having to measure up to some impossible performance standard. We cannot earn, nor do we deserve our adoption as his dearly loved children. We are saved by amazing grace. Any work we do or law we observe is simply a “Thank you, Lord. We love you too.”
