Grace Has the Last Word

We were once given airline tickets from a friend. As a retired airline employee, he could sign over his benefit of free air travel for a small processing fee. We were elated to receive this gift; however, we did not fully realize the terms of travel. The status of the ticket rated us as “stand-by.”

It was an anxious feeling we experienced when we watched numerous other passengers board the plane with an accepted ticket. The flight proved to have no seats for us. Feeling rejected, we anticipated the next flight with concern. We both breathed a sigh of relief when the agent finally called our names and issued us confirmed seats.

Mosaic Law had always determined the status of one’s ticket to heaven. Jews had the covenant. Gentiles didn’t; thus, no reason to “stand by” and hope. Now righteousness apart from the Law is revealed because all debt has been paid through Jesus’ death on the Cross. Grace offers salvation.

I like the new format, but I miss the scripture references – am I missing some part of this devotional?

    Geri,

Have no fear! Scripture references are coming. As of September 1st, all posts will have scripture references. Each scripture reference will link to Biblegateway.com where you will be able to read the scripture in its entirety.

Its good let me rephrase that; its a blessingto know that whenever we need Him God is on stand by. All the more reason He is the one we need to stand for.

I am thankful for this promise as well. I know I am not a model Christian, But when I see the multiple examples of God’s grace and forgiveness over and over again to seemingly unworthy people, I am more of a model than I give myself credit. Thanks be to God.

This ia a very “vivid” picture of Grace…a great “living example”, if you will.

Tjank God that He “ever lives to make intercession for us” (Hebrews 7:25)

I would only say this…it is His Grace that saves us from beginning to end…it is not of works…see Ephesians 2:8-10. Yes, if we are genuinely saved we will have works, but they are the outworking of Christ in us.

I like the words of a fine Christian pastor I know who says, “Grace is not a doctrine, it is a Person”.

And because of that Person…the Lord Jesus Christ we are never on standby…He is always there to hear our prayers, and sometimes the mere groaning of our hearts! (Romans 8)

Bless the Lord, He will never leave us nor forsake us!!!

And we can learn a little from our Presbyterian brothers and sisters…His Grace is “irresistable”…(See Romans 8, Hebrews 7, and John 10:27-30.

    Blessings!

Vera, are you still out there?

I trust that were hearing Jesus knocking on your door.

In searching for wisdom and understanding, the Holy Spirit keeps knocking until you received all that your heart actually wants..
