The Rejected Redeemer

June 1st, 2010

What a change. All spoke well of him and were amazed at his gracious words, but in a few minutes they were furious…Ready to toss Jesus off a cliff! What happened?

They were not angry when He read Isaiah’s words and said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”. His message probed their inmost thoughts. “Heal yourself! . . . Do here in your hometown what you did in Capernaum”. Wasn’t this Joseph’s son? We know Him. We saw Him grow up.

The Nazarenes’ lack of faith reflected their low expectations.

“Don’t pretend you’re something you’re not, Jesus! You may get by with that in Capernaum; they’ll believe anything over there!” Their rage against Him crashed like a wave against the immovable shore. He simply walked away.

Lord, please don’t let my expectations limit what You can do in my town, my church, my life today.
